Live TV Channels with Scheduled Ad Breaks

The Live TV widget plays a live channel on your display and, on a schedule you set, pauses to play your own promo, then returns to the live feed. You get an entertainment draw for customers and a promotion slot you control, on the same screen.

Set up a Live TV channel

  1. Add the Live TV widget to your display.
  2. Enter your channel link, the live stream address your provider gives you. A single channel link always works. If your provider gives you a multi channel playlist, you can pick which channel to show.
  3. Add a display name if you want a label on screen, for example "Sports" or "News."

Turn on scheduled ad breaks

  1. Enable scheduled ad breaks.
  2. Set the interval, the number of minutes of live TV between each break. For example, 15 minutes runs a break four times an hour.
  3. Add one or more promo items to play during each break. Set how many seconds each item stays on screen.
  4. Leave resume live on so the channel always comes back after a break. Turn it off only if you want the screen to stop on the promo after the first break.

How a break plays out

  • The channel plays for your chosen number of minutes. Live time counts only while the channel is actually playing, so a brief buffering moment does not shorten your live segment or push breaks off schedule.
  • When the live segment reaches your interval, the feed pauses and your promos play in order, each for the seconds you set.
  • After the last promo, the screen returns to the live channel and the timer resets for the next break.

Example

Set a 15 minute interval with two 15 second promos: a clip of your signature dish and an image of tonight's special with the price. The screen plays 15 minutes of live TV, runs your two promos for 30 seconds, returns to live, and repeats. That is four promo slots an hour in front of a captive audience, with no staff effort.

Keep promos short, around 10 to 20 seconds each, so breaks stay tight and customers get back to the channel quickly.
