Pickup, Delivery, and Dine-In Options
OrderFriendly supports three service modes. Most merchants start with one and add others as they grow.
Pickup
The simplest. Customers order online, pay, and come to your counter at the time you give them.
Setup
- Open Settings → Service Options → Pickup.
- Toggle Pickup on.
- Set Preparation Time — how long, on average, a typical order takes. 15 minutes is a common starting number.
- Set Buffer Minutes — extra time during busy windows. 10 to 20 minutes works.
- Save.
The customer sees an estimated ready time at checkout. You can override it on each order from the dashboard if a specific dish takes longer.
Pickup instructions
Open Settings → Service Options → Pickup → Customer Instructions. Write one or two sentences telling them what to do when they arrive: "Come in and give the cashier your name. Orders are kept on the warming rack."
Delivery
Charging delivery fees adds revenue. Setting up delivery zones avoids drivers ending up in the wrong county.
Setup
- Open Settings → Service Options → Delivery.
- Toggle Delivery on.
- Choose how you measure the zone:
- Radius — by miles or kilometers from your address.
- Zip / Postcodes — list specific codes.
- Polygon — draw the zone on a map.
- Set Minimum Order (e.g. $20).
- Set Delivery Fee — a flat fee or per-mile rate.
- Set Estimated Delivery Time (e.g. 45 minutes).
- Save.
Who drives
OrderFriendly does not provide drivers. You can:
- Use your own staff. A delivery driver picks up from the dashboard, marks Out for Delivery, then Delivered.
- Connect a third-party fleet. Open Settings → Integrations to connect supported delivery partners. The order pushes to the partner the moment the customer pays.
Free delivery promotions
To run free delivery on orders over $40:
- Open Promotions → Promo Codes (see Creating Promo Codes and Discounts).
- Make a code, set discount to Delivery Fee Waived, and set minimum order to $40.
Dine-in (QR-code ordering)
A QR code on each table. Customers scan, browse the menu, and order without flagging down a server.
Setup
- Open Settings → Service Options → Dine-in.
- Toggle Dine-in on.
- Pick How customers pay:
- Pay at table — order now, pay when they leave. Best for full-service.
- Pay online up front — order and pay together. Best for fast-casual.
- Print the QR codes from Dine-in → Table QR Codes and stick one on every table.
Each table gets a unique code. When an order comes in, the dashboard shows the table number, so a runner knows where to deliver.
Letting customers pick
If you turn on more than one service, customers see a chooser at the start of the order: Pickup · Delivery · Dine-in. The default is whichever is currently open at the time.
When to turn off a service
- Turn off delivery during a snowstorm. Open Settings → Service Options → Delivery and toggle off.
- Turn off pickup for an hour during a power outage.
Customers see a banner explaining which service is paused. Other services stay live.
Common mistakes
- Delivery radius too large. Drivers spend forever. Start small, grow with experience.
- Pickup prep time too short. Customers arrive to a half-done order. Pad by 5 minutes.
- Dine-in without pay-up-front in a high-turnover spot. Tables stay seated longer when payment is at the end.
